Renewable energy has been growing very rapidly in China in recent years. China now ranks top in the world's production of solar thermal collectors, twelfth in geothermal power generation, and eighth in wind power generation. As one of the substitutes for coal, renewable energy is expected to contribute as much as six percent of the country's energy supplies and eight percent of its power supply by the year 2020.

To increase the level of renewable energy consumption in China the country is to invest 1.5 trillion Yuan (US$187.5 billion), said Wu Guihui, vice-director-general of the Bureau of Energy under the National Development and Reform Commission.[1] Currently 7.5 percent of China's energy comes from renewable sources. The country's aim is to make this 10 percent by 2010 and 16 percent by 2020. The initial 2020 goal had been 20 percent but was revised downward.

We were honored to attend 2006 Great Wall Renewable Energy Forum (GWREF) on behalf of the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania and help Secretary of Department of Energy Ms McGinty arrange meetings with the presidents and General Managers of the top players in China’s Renewable Energy sector. The screening process and interviewing with companies started on 1 September. We finalized 6 company meetings in Beijing. After the meetings, we identified several hot leads that would like to invest in PA in the following years.

On the forum, 6 meetings between the decision makers and Ms McGinty were arranged by us.
